How stepping outside of your comfort zone can boost your confidence, wellbeing and creativity levels
Extreme sports enthusiasts love to board, glide or fly. As they play on the planet’s unique and endless playground they are free to evolve. This is because they are surrounded by an endless source of inspiration, free to explore in the most remote and beautiful places in the world.
Are you an adrenaline junkie?
I used to get high on the flourish of the snow spraying under my skis, now I get a thrill from the flourish of my pen. Committed and passionate artists, both sedentary and active draw their lines of intense living at dizzy heights. Sometimes on their laptop and on the back of envelopes. Other times on an easel or on a mountain top. They experience instances when they become one with the elements, where they cross over into the extremities of all the senses, whether it be within the elements of water, earth or air. It is often also within the extremities of self-exploration and the questioning of our existence that we get the unshakeable feeling we are part of a greater whole: the Earth.
What drives achievers?
What drives some people to want continually live their lives to the fullest, to push their limits, to confront extreme natural conditions?
Why do they have a drive to break records, an irrepressible need to exist or to stand out from the crowd, seek
adrenaline rushes or the fear of facing a “normal” life?
THEY LOVE FEELING ALIVE!
“Reality is just five percent of life.
Man must dream to save himself.”
(Inspirational explorer, mountain climber and journalist)
When I read about other people’s amazing accomplishments, I feel a desire stir within me. My dreams. I may not be able to be a professional Olympian or dance star, but I can accomplish other great feats that will inspire others.
You need a drive, you need a thrill to keep you going. Do not stagnate otherwise your relationships and work will as well.
Dare yourself to live
Explore different ways to bring life back into your life. Try these suggestions to inspire an unwavering drive within you. You will of course need to be prepared for uncompromising self-sacrifices and a good dosage of humility:
- Get really involved and share with like-minded people.
- Change your routine
- Go on a weekend retreat – affordable, only a couple of days – opens your eyes and mind
- Join a club you would not normally – like boxing or theatre – to help bring you out of yourself
- Help a charitable cause – plant trees, serve out breakfast at church
- Go swimming in a cold pool or sea
But people who really feel life pulsing within them are not just adrenaline junkies. For example, people who are immersed in the living world (observers of protected species, nature photographers, etc.). Their awareness of the richness offered by natural resources (creators of foundations or associations) and their passion for the Earth make them equally vibrant with life’s natural energy.
Be an inspirational role model
Be an inspiration to yourself and to others. That is how we will save our planet. Protests alone do not work. We are society and society is not listening. Truth is, we like our TV and plastics. To change the world we must start from within. Change yourself from within by stepping out of your comfort zone. Doing, experiencing something incredible helps with your spiritual growth and personal development.
When we step out of our comfort zone, our body and mind come alive. Like a paraglider or wingsuit flyer. They listen to the wind, feel it brush over their skin, lean on the thermals that lift them, they do not fear the drop to the ground that rolls by below at full speed – they become one with the element of air.
So can you. Focused, in your bubble, you can peel away your role as a human to open up the way to a certain instinctive nature deep within you. When you do, you feel in touch with your true self as you focus solely on the present moment – now you are a part of nature’s web.
Step outside of your comfort zone and start experiencing the other 95 percent of life out there.
